Tampa, FL Dec. 11, 2009- Tampa Bay Buccaneers # 70 Donald Penn blocked out time to speak with the University of Tampa Graduate Students who raised school supplies for underprivileged children in Tampa Bay. On behalf of Teaching Tools of Hillsborough County, the students filled boxes stuffed with backpacks, pencils, paper and many other school supplies greatly needed by Title 1 schools of Hillsborough County. In return, Donald spoke with the students about the impact and importance of giving back to the youth who otherwise aren't as fortunate. Penn stated, "I am really impressed by the amount of school supplies this group came up with, this is a cause that is really important to me." The supplies donated will benefit the many children of Hillsborough Title 1 schools who are at or below poverty level.
Molly O'Brien, the Donald Penn Foundation Inc. Intern and UT grad student, headed the school supply drive and stated, "My classmates and I were so touched by the video that Teaching Tools showed prior to the roundtable discussion with Donald. I had no idea that these teachers pay for many of the students school supplies out of their own pockets!" In agreement, Philipp Fries, the UT Graduate Student Body President, added, "we are so proud of the results of this school supply drive, that we are already planning to partner with the Donald Penn Foundation again next semester to support this great cause."
